Why Southerners Still Love a Good Trade Day

“We’re just going to look” has probably caused more trouble in the South than any other five-word sentence. It sounds harmless enough, the kind of thing said on a Saturday morning when the truck bed still has room and nobody has fully committed to the day. Then the afternoon happens. You come home with homemade pickles, three plants, kettle corn, a cast-iron skillet you never knew you always needed, and a story about somebody’s cousin’s tomato stand that somehow feels like part of your own family lore now.
